Updating firmware

You can update firmware by using either a remote or localhost workflow. The appropriate method depends on where the Smart Update Manager (SUM) is installed and how the target servers are managed.

Remote: The solution runs on a dedicated management system and updates managed servers through their iLO interfaces. This workflow is recommended for updating one or more servers from a centralized location. You launch SUM from the management server to perform the update.

Localhost: The solution runs on the target server and uses the online update workflow to perform firmware updates. The target server must have a supported OS installed and running. This workflow is recommended for updating a single server. You launch SUM from the target server to perform the update.
