Localhost server discovery and onboarding
When the Smart Update Manager (SUM) service starts, it automatically attempts to discover and onboard the localhost server through in-band communication with the local iLO.
The localhost server discovery and onboarding behavior depends on the
availability of a supported local iLO, the iLO security configuration, and whether the
server is managed by an external management application.
| Condition | Behavior |
|---|---|
| No supported local iLO detected | SUM does not create a localhost server entry. |
| Managed by HPE Compute Ops Management or HPE OneView | SUM does not create a localhost server entry. |
| Production (Standard) mode | SUM automatically onboards the localhost server. |
| High Security, FIPS, or CNSA mode | SUM creates the server entry but onboarding remains pending. |
Requirements for automatic onboarding
Automatic onboarding of localhost server requires the following:
-
A supported local iLO is available.
-
Required in-band communication components, such as the Channel Interface (CHIF) drivers, are installed.
-
No external management application is managing the localhost server.
-
The iLO security configuration allows automatic onboarding.
After onboarding completes successfully, the localhost server appears on the Servers page with populated server details and is available for firmware lifecycle operations.
