Opening the SUM firewall port for remote access

Prerequisites

  • You have administrative privileges on Windows or root/sudo privileges on Linux.

Procedure

  1. Open a command prompt or terminal.

Log in to the system where Smart Update Manager (SUM) is installed and open a command prompt or terminal with the required administrative privileges.

  2. Start SUM and open the firewall port.
Run the appropriate command for your OS.
    • Windows: sum-service-control.bat start --open-firewall

    • Linux: sudo /opt/sum/bin/sum-service-control.sh start --open-firewall

The service-control script starts SUM and opens the configured SUM TCP port in the operating system firewall.

  3. Open the firewall port for a running SUM service.

If SUM is already running and you only need to open or verify the configured firewall port, run:

    • Windows: sum-service-control.bat status --open-firewall

    • Linux: sudo /opt/sum/bin/sum-service-control.sh status --open-firewall

The service-control script opens the configured SUM TCP port, if required, and verifies the SUM service status.

  4. Verify remote access.

From a supported web browser on a remote system, enter: https://%3CSUM-hostname-or-IP-address%3E:63002.

    For example: https://sumserver.example.com:63002 or https://192.168.1.100:63002

Results

If the firewall is configured correctly and SUM is running, the SUM web UI is accessible from the remote system.
