User account is temporarily locked after repeated login attempts

Symptom

You cannot sign in to Smart Update Manager (SUM) even when using valid credentials. Authentication requests continue to be rejected following multiple unsuccessful login attempts.

Cause

SUM uses host OS authentication. Repeated unsuccessful login attempts can trigger a temporary account lockout according to the OS security policy.

Action

  1. Verify that the username and password are correct.
  2. For Windows domain accounts, use one of the supported username formats:
    • domain_name\user_name

    • user_name@example.com

  3. Wait for the lockout period to expire.
  4. If access is still unavailable, contact the system administrator to unlock the account according to the OS policy.
  5. Review authentication logs if login attempts continue to be rejected.
