Remote access to SUM

Smart Update Manager (SUM) uses TCP port 63002 for the SUM web UI and REST APIs.

By default, SUM is accessible locally using: https://localhost:63002

If you need to access SUM from a remote system, the SUM port must be allowed for inbound connections through the operating system firewall.

Use the --open-firewall option with the SUM service-control script to open the configured SUM TCP port in the operating system firewall.
NOTE
You do not need to open the firewall port when SUM is accessed only from the localhost.

When to use the --open-firewall option

Use the --open-firewall option in the following situations:

  • You can access SUM locally, but the SUM web UI or REST APIs cannot be accessed from a remote system.
  • You want the SUM service-control script to open the required firewall port when starting SUM.
  • You changed the SUM server port in the SUM configuration and need to allow the new port through the firewall.
